Visual artists, musicians, writers, and other creative community members - there are several funding opportunities now open for applications!
BC Arts Council: Visual Artists Grant
Supports individual professional visual artists, contemporary and traditional craft artists, and independent critics and curators with the creation of specific projects. Grants are available to support the research and creation of new artworks.
Creating, Knowing and Sharing: The Arts and Cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples
Funds First Nations, Inuit and Métis professional and emerging artists, cultural carriers, arts and cultural professionals, groups, collectives and organizations working in all disciplines
Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation: Young Artists Grant
Funds young artists who are pursuing their studies or are in the early stage of their career, and working in a representational style of painting, drawing, sculpture or printmaking and demonstrate the determination and talent to pursue a lifetime career in their art practice.
Equity and Emerging Development Program
Aims to provide direct and targeted support to emerging and/or equity seeking B.C. filmmakers. Creators can receive a grant of up to $10,000 to cover the cost of bringing together a development team to do research, develop a concept or write a script. The grants are available for a wide range of content including scripted feature length films or series, animated features or series, and documentaries/factual one-offs or series.
Indigenous Screen Office: Interactive and Immersive Program
This program provides funding support to Indigenous screen-based creators for the development and production of Interactive and/or Immersive projects. Applicants to this program may undertake project work in the development and production of high-calibre video​​games, AR/VR/MR works, apps, and immersive and/or interactive projects that include audiovisual content.
Supports reconciliation activities, events, and initiatives in communities that contribute to cultural revitalization, elevate Indigenous culture, languages, and traditions, increase understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, or other grassroots initiatives that move reconciliation forward.
RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers
This award is for developing writers of poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction and was established in memory of writer Bronwen Wallace. This annual award is given to a writer who has published poetry or prose in a literary magazine or anthology, but has not yet been published in book form and is without a book contract.
STORYHIVE is providing grants of $10,000 each to produce locally reflective nonfiction podcasts accompanied by a video component. We’re seeking stories that capture the voice, personality and experiences of communities across Western Canada. Projects may be featured on TELUS platforms, including TELUS Optik TV On Demand and STORYHIVE’s YouTube channel.
