Parks For The People: Community Consultations

I’m hosting a series of conversations with community members across Vancouver to better understand how our parks and public spaces are working for people—and where they’re falling short.
These sessions are about listening, learning, and bringing voices together. I hope you’ll join one that fits your experience!

Session 1: On The Water
Wednesday, May 6, 6-7:30pm
This session brings together people who enjoy Vancouver's waterfronts and facilities. It will include leaders from the city's paddling, rowing, swimming, and boating communities, as well as casual users of the city's waters.
Session 2: Active Spaces
Wednesday, May 13, 6-7:30pm
This session brings together people who actively enjoy Vancouver's fields, beaches, and other recreation spaces, and will include leaders from running, walking, and sports communities. This is also a great session for parents of young athletes.
Session 3: Arts In The Park
Wednesday, May 27, 6-7:30pm
How can Vancouver's parks and recreation spaces, as well as city processes, better support arts and culture in the community? This session will include leaders from across the creative sector, from theatre to visual artists to festival organizers and more.
Session 4: People For Parks
Wednesday, June 3, 6-7:30pm
How can Vancouver's parks, beaches, and other recreation spaces better support environmental sustainability, biodiversity, as well as climate resilience and education? Join environmentally minded community members for this discussion.

Session 5: Parks For Seniors
Wednesday, June 24, 6-7:30pm
How can Vancouver's parks and recreation spaces better support the needs, comforts, safety, and accessibility of seniors? This session will include leaders from the seniors sector, including BC's Senior Advocate, as well as community members from the city.

Session 6: Accessible Parks
Wednesday, July 8, 6-7:30pm
How can Vancouver's parks and recreation spaces become more accessible to people with disabilities? This session will include disability advocates and community leaders focused on accessibility in our public spaces.
Session 7: Pride In The Park
Wednesday, July 15, 6-7:30pm
How can Vancouver’s parks and public spaces better support the safety, inclusion, comfort, and sense of belonging for LGBTQ+ community members? Join this discussion to share your input and connect with local leaders.
Session 8: Parks For Families
Wednesday, September 9, 6-7:30pm
How can Vancouver’s parks and public spaces better support the needs, comfort, safety, and accessibility of parents and families? Parents, teachers, and family-minded folk, this conversation is for you.

Session 9: In-Person Gathering
Time and location TBA
To close the engagement series, I'll be hosting an in-person community event, featuring conversation, networking, good food and drink, and talks with special guest speakers. Stay tuned!
